anything star wars? Its really big and with it coming out here in a few more days (I think---) though would probably be hard to acquire right now. My 10 year old niece is really into Harry Potter (got her a scarf for her birthday in May and was told she wears it all the time even had it on during the summer!!)...as I have no nephews that young (youngest is in his 3rd year of college--dang I remember when my sister was pregs with him ) cant give more help than that.

I HAD nice neighbors, they all moved out (one to a retirement home the other moved around the corner to a one level condo instead of the 2 floors she had), my new neighbors--I wouldnt trust to take in my recycling bin! (and they usually arent home during the day anyways---).

Star Wars is always big it seems, but ya, I'm not sure. 9 year old me was happy to be playing with dirt. So there is that...

We have some nice neighbors here, though everything mainly just ends up at the office. Which is fine, get it from there and you know it is safe during the day. So no complaints on that end.

Its so obvious once you said it, but it never even crossed my mind!

Pretty sure his mum won't be happy with me if I give him a jar of dirt. And yeah back in the old days mud pies and ants were good for an entire days entertainment...

I think it helps that we have had the same postman for many years so he knows us all also, if he thought is was dodgy he wouldn't leave the parcel.

our postal carrier changes every 10 months or so--its our stupid town, I have talked to my friends and such from around the area (different towns) and they all say the same thing: have had the same carrier for years. Yet our stupid post office seems to think that changing them every year is a good idea (you just get one broken in and then, poof! you have a new one to train . Dont know, perhaps its the stupid town that no one wants to work at our little post office (I know that the last 4 or 5 carriers we had are still around though---). I really REALLY hate this place!

dirt...dont think I was ever a fan of it really, by 9 or 10 I was in full art mode, so I was spending most of my time with crayons, pens, pencils or whatever arty stuff I could get my hands on.

come to think of it LEGOS! are always a good idea too.

All I can think of now is Jack Sparrow toting around his jar of dirt in Dead Man's Chest. I've got a jar of dirt! He didn't think it was a stupid present!

We have one that seems to be a regular, but sometimes others take the route. Then we end up not getting our mail done until close to 6pm at night.. Not so cool.

Legos would be awesome. Expensive, but awesome. I loved legos as a child!

Yeah I am not into spending a lot when I don't know what the child will like, and anyway he will get a lot of expensive presents from his nearer relatives. I found an acceptable lego set, Rey's Speeder, if he interested in teh film and doesn't get better lego it will be enough and if he isn't interested at al I didnt invest too much in it. So thanks again for the suggestion

I had jar of dirt as the ringtone on my phone until my kids begged me to remove it :P

That would be perfect. Sometimes the smaller ones are more fun because they are less frustrating and confusing to build. Just my opinion anyways.

Hmmm, I might need to find that ringtone...

I like the bigger sets because you can use the pieces for other things ---I have extra of some sets so I can make my current sets bigger (picked up the castle series...and some of my castles need expanding so I have more parts that I can do that with). But yeah, if he doesnt like the movie he can use the pieces for something else.

never heard of that song. and dont have a phone to have a ringtone on anyways

Oh man that is amazing. Lol I love it.

Bigger ones are nice since the give you more pieces to then make other things. Sometimes simpler is better though. Plus we have so many legos at my parents so we don't need more pieces.

well, no legos at my parents house --no 'parents house' so no legos and when I was a kid there were no legos yet, did have another building block lego type--but only came in one type of piece a 2 long 1 wide, great for building walls and such, but got boring after a while.

got all my cards mailed and all the gifts as well...though usps is still stalling on delivering my packages and even destroyed one only leaving a sorry excuse for a note in its place "we care...blah blah blah.." if you cared you would make sure packages reach their destination intact! (or issue a FULL REFUND instead of the poor soul who sent it having to )....though in their favor they do ring the bell when they have boxes for me--unlike the fedex man who left 4 huge boxes blocking the common mailbox area yesterday I truly despise them --not sure just how difficult it is to ring the bell before you run
ah well, this time of year will pass soon enough (I hope) and then we can get back to normal----though the weather is far from normal this year, our late seasons are still happening---its in the 50's for most of last week! (and all that rain we got would have been about 1 foot of snow so very happy for the heat wave!!!).
No ideas when the seasons will catch up and go back to ---wait, there is no such thing as normal here, ....nevermind

You probably had lincoln logs. Which were pretty awesome as well.

We are working on those cards. Just got all the envelopes for them, we just have to proof read, print, and send.

Almost done with this semester. 1 more day and 1 more final to give. So close...

no, the lincoln logs didnt make it past my brothers...the wood just didnt have it in it to make it another decade, the plastic lego like blocks did (they were white plastic and by the time they got to me there was only a few dozen left and some of them were broken...so I used to make one wall or a very small tower from them, and they looked like legos--only slightly bigger but not as big as the duplos--and well before the idea of duplos ever was).

yep classes are just about done here as well (a few of my friends are taking grad classes and the semester ends ...er, tomorrow!)....and then next week is xmas...dang this year flew by (wish I had missed parts of it totally being sick et.al.).

was quite cold today...winter is trying to happen, just cant imagine what will happen if next year is 'late' again...double wammy in february??? and when we will 'catch up' since we have been behind all year. screwy weather

Legos are durable things. They can be dropped, thrown, kicked, stepped on, etc and keep on working. Pretty amazing.

Thank goodness it is break. Needed it lol. Time to catch up on some sleep!

Very cold the past couple days... But it is supposed to warm up again soon. Strange weather... Hope this doesn't mean we get dumped with snow later on this winter...

yeah we hope the el nino thing keeps up--I dont mind a mild winter (snow is pretty to look at in photos, I dont need it on the ground). and yeah, cold today--but supposed to get warm again tomorrow and the next week.

yeah, hard to break legos, but it has been achieved (he didnt really need that lower arm anyways )

still waiting on one last gift...not coming from very far, but I think the postman is mad at me now. (hey, at least I am keeping him employeed!)

Mild winter would be perfect. I would be very happy with that. No snow on the ground/roads would be great. Supposed to be 60 here on Wednesday. 60! In December! CRAZY!

Certain times of legos are not to hard to break, other ones are. And some of those can break your feet. They definitely are not fun to step on...

I just need to make up one last gift and then do my stockings and I am done. So close.

One daughter has a 2 expensive presents and the younger one has one cheap present but I have no ideas at all. she is self contained, needs and wants nothing!

The weather is really odd this year, so mild it doesn't seem like winter. We will be plagued with insects in teh spring unless we get a bit colder.

at that point I would go with gift certificates---if she is old enough to pick out her own clothing (and you know what store she favors) you can get one from there--or if she likes to read or say, go to the movies, there are GC for those as well.

weather is very odd this year....everything is about 6 weeks later than it should be. Its raining here and supposed to be in the mid 40's to low 50's (yes its the week of xmas....), but we are not complaining---if it were snow coming down right now we would have close to a foot already!!! NO THANKS!

Gift cards are sometimes considered less personal, but heck, then they can pick out what THEY want. Sometimes it just makes a lot more sense.

Warm again today. Rain and maybe storms tomorrow and in the low 60's. On December 23rd... Wut?

Window might have been fixed today. There were people outside working by it so I'm hoping they fixed it. Guess we will find out tomorrow when it rains...

I LIKE gift cards, that way I can get what I want when I need it (like in the summer when I need summer clothing, instead of now when all you can find are sweaters!)....so they are 'less personal' -- I have no issues with that if that is what you want for a gift....sometimes having this holiday in the winter makes it very difficult to get gifts (when have you gone shopping in december for say, pool toys or lawn mowers or grilling stuff???***in the northern part of the us). I find that gift certificates at christmas make more sense since I dont always want stuff that is only out now, but then again ....I am not like everyone else

yes rain in december with possible thunderstorms!!! last time I remember a winter this warm was back in the early 80's...remember wearing a sleeveless dress to church that christmas.....and very VERY glad its rain (just think how much accumulation it would be if it had been snow coming down! !)
